Disability accommodations are intended to provide 'reasonable accommodation' in legal terms or, in common language, a 'level playing field' for students with disabilities in order for them to compete academically with their peers.

WHAT QUALIFIES?

A disability has been defined as any impairment in function which limits normal performance and includes physical disabilities (such as a person in a wheelchair), learning disabilities (such as dyslexia or math disorder), or other mental health disorder (such as severe depression, an anxiety disorder, etc.)

STEPS TO REQUEST AN ACCOMMODATION

  • Obtain documentation of your disability from a physician, psychologist or other healthcare professional.

  • Bring the information to Disability Services, which is housed inside the Community Counseling Center

  • In some cases, you might need to take an on-campus disability accommodations evaluation.

  • If approved, a disability accommodation officer will provide you a letter to give to your professors.
